Join us on 31st of May for the SRA webinar series. Featuring Dr Jason Eglinton, SRA General Manager - Variety Development, presenting on ‘From Barley to Sugarcane, Challenges and Prospects’. Developing new varieties is a complex and slow process requiring continuous innovation and technical improvement to ensure the performance of future products is superior to what the industry has available today. Technical and tactical changes made to the breeding program over the past seven years will be outlined in an assessment of the current state of SRA plant breeding. New initiatives will be introduced and context provided on how they can improve rates of genetic gain. The practical application of genomic selection, introgression and fast-track technologies will be described in providing a view of the short and medium-term outlook for variety development at SRA. 180 growers gathered this week for this year's MAPS/SRA Field Day at Victoria Plains clean seed farm. Growers heard the performance of new varieties on the farm walk conducted by Anthony Schembri, MAPS and George Piperidis, SRA. It was a great afternoon for catching up with other growers and industry specialists to talk about the upcoming season, weeds, agronomic issues, new technology for spraying and irrigation, and a host of other topics. Our thanks to all contributors.
